Mindshift (2008) was created with a desire to evolve beyond love songs.

I was learning about environmental issues, very influenced by “A Language Beyond Words” by Derrick Jensen and “A Sacred Balance” by David Suzuki.

I moved to Glasgow, Scotland to study the music business, and was amazed how the experience of living in another country opened my perspective. I felt like a fish outside of its fishbowl, looking in.

When I got back to Canada, I knew I wanted to elevate the production with this album, so I reached out to a producer named Adam Miner. Honestly, working with him was awesome and a great learning experience. He helped structure the songs, orchestrated the instruments, and even mapped out the harmonies. He scheduled awesome musicians (including himself) who I was honoured to work with. He went above and beyond…

Artistically, I felt like I lost control. In the end, I felt like the voice didn’t sound like mine. We agreed on a budget and he went way beyond it. I got triggered and abandoned the album. Then my parents unexpectedly paid the debt and bought the masters for me as a present.

Years later, I can look back and see what I learned. I learned that I like to be a part of every step of the production, to feel a deep connection with the Music. I learned a lot about musical production. I learned about what I really want and need when collaborating professionally.

Now I love this album for what it is. It’s a part of my journey. I hope you enjoy these songs, as many of them are anthems to take care of this Beautiful Earth…
